Detail of outcome

The government has responded to shaping the future of England’s strategic roads consultation. Government has also published the draft third road investment strategy (RIS3), which sets out priorities for the strategic road network in England from 2026 to 2031. 

A summary of responses to the National Highways Strategic Road Network initial report for RIS3 has also been included in this response.

Consultation description

We are consulting on the set of proposals made in National Highways’ Initial Report. The report outlines National Highways’:

  • view on the current state of the strategic road network (SRN)
  • potential future needs
  • proposed priorities for the next road period (RP3), covering the financial years 2025 to 2026 to 2029 to 2030
