DESNZ Science and Technology Advisory Council

The DESNZ Science and Technology Advisory Council provides independent science and engineering advice to inform the department’s decisions.

The role of the Science and Technology Advisory Council (STAC) is to support the DESNZ Chief Scientific Adviser (CSA) in providing the department with independent, expert and cross-disciplinary advice and challenge across its remit, informing policy, delivery and strategic decisions.

Code of conduct

The STAC operates in accordance with the Code of Practice for Scientific Advisory Committees and Councils (CoPSAC, 2021).

Members have a duty to act in the public interest, and in accordance with the 7 Principles of Public Life (the Nolan Principles) and relevant provisions of the Code of Conduct for Board Members of Public Bodies.

Members are also required to declare any interests that could reasonably be seen to influence their advice or participation.
