Ambassador highlights need for continued work on media freedom
Tunisian media made a huge leap forward since the revolution but more remains to be done.
Speaking to on the eve of , Chris O鈥機onnor, British Ambassador to Tunisia, described the huge leap forward the Tunisian media had made after the revolution, but also the need for continued progress.
He set out how Tunisian journalists are freer than could have been imaginable in the Ben Ali era.
However, he also pointed to the continuing reports of journalists being subject to violence and harassment.
The Ambassador underlined the importance of a legal framework to protect the hard won freedoms which enable journalists to play their role.
On what the UK is doing to support freedom of expression in Tunisia 鈥� the Ambassador described the , a project with to transform the into a public service broadcaster and work through to establish a strong legal framework for free and independent media.
