Foreign Secretary welcomes announcement of NATO Secretary General-designate

NATO鈥檚 North Atlantic Council confirmed that Mr Jens Stoltenberg will succeed NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen in October 2014.

Foreign Secretary William Hague said:

I welcome today鈥檚 announcement of Jens Stoltenberg as NATO鈥檚 next Secretary General.

Jens will take up his new role shortly after this year鈥檚 NATO summit in Wales. I look forward to working with him and other Allies to shape NATO鈥檚 future. Events in Ukraine remind us that NATO has a vital role in ensuring the collective security of all members of the alliance.
