Theresa O'Mahony

Biography
Theresa O’Mahony has been British Deputy High Commissioner to Sri Lanka since July 2025. Prior to taking up her current position, she was Deputy Envoy for the Just Energy Transition Partnerships, based in London.
Theresa joined the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office in 2002 and has extensive experience in Middle East policy, including a posting to Amman, Jordan. She spent a number of years working in Southeast Asia including two postings to Indonesia.
She holds a BA in Ancient History and Archaeology and an MA in Classical Studies. Theresa has a strong interest in climate, environment, and nature and is currently completing an MSc in Climate Change and Development.
Theresa enjoys playing and watching sports and is looking forward to experiencing Sri Lanka’s renowned cricket culture.
British Deputy High Commissioner to Sri Lanka
The Deputy High Commissioner is a senior diplomat and typically a key advisor to the High Commissioner. The Deputy is responsible for the daily management of an overseas Embassy or High Commission. They will represent the UK’s interests in the absence of the Ambassador as Chargé d’Affaires. A senior ranking Deputy may also take the title Minister. Smaller missions may not have a Deputy Head.
