The yeast formerly known as Candida auris has been reclassified as Candidozyma auris following a taxonomic revision in 2023.
Candidozyma auris (C. auris) is a rapidly emerging fungal pathogen with a global distribution.聽Designated a critical priority fungal pathogen by the World Health Organization in 2022, C. auris can result in colonisations, severe invasive infections and outbreaks within healthcare settings. Resistance has developed to many available classes of antifungals, including the first-line antifungal agent fluconazole, with the emergence of pan-resistant strains. In non-UK settings, invasive disease has been associated with significant mortality.
This guidance outlines recommendations for the laboratory investigation, management, and infection prevention and control practices associated with C. auris in healthcare settings.
