The law on the sale of self-testing kits for HIV within the UK (HIV Testing Kits and Services Regulation 1992) was changed on 6 April 2014. It is now lawful to sell and advertise the sale of HIV self-testing kits in England, Scotland and Wales.

As of November 2015 CE marked self-testing kits are available on the market.

This document is intended for:

  • individuals considering purchasing an HIV self-test kit for personal use
  • clinicians and other healthcare workers
  • those working or volunteering for non-governmental organisations involved in HIV prevention
