The guide brings together relevant information from NICE guidance, research and learning from areas that have set up or piloted latent TB infection (LTBI) testing and treatment programmes. It offers practical advice on how primary care based LTBI testing and treatment could be implemented locally.

It also provides details of LTBI programmes, outlining:

  • who should consider implementing one
  • who should be tested
  • where testing should take place
  • how testing should be done
  • how testing and treatment is paid for
  • what the data return requirements are

The information leaflet can help GPs and healthcare professionals discuss latent TB infections with patients.
