This notice should be read with the UK regulations implementing the provisions of the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006, as amended (MLC).

The purpose of the marine guidance notice is to explain the UK鈥檚 understanding of the key terms used in the MLC.

The UK intends to implement the MLC and all amendments fully and without departing from the intention of those who drafted the convention.

The terms covered in this notice are 鈥渟eafarer,鈥� 鈥渟hip鈥� and 鈥渟hipowner.鈥�

Amendment 2 updates the definition of seafarer to cover special purpose ships.
