HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) commissioned research agency Ipsos to carry out a survey to improve understanding of the Company Owner Manager population. For the purposes of this research, a Company Owner Manager was defined as an individual who was both a director and shareholder of their company.
This research was commissioned in March 2023, under the Conservative government (2010 to 2024), and completed in October 2024.
The research sought to:
- identify the prevalence of companies with at least one Company Owner Manager in the UK
- understand the size and sector profile of companies with at least one Company Owner Manager
- understand how Company Owner Managers were remunerated for their work in the company, and reasons behind the chosen approaches
Fieldwork took place between October 2023 and April 2024.
