Section 18 of the Climate Change Act requires that a final statement is laid before Parliament in respect of each budgetary period.

The statement for the third budgetary period covering 2018 to 2022 shows that:

• over the third budgetary period, UK emissions as calculated by the net UK carbon account were 2,153 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO2e)
• this is 391 MtCO2e听below the third carbon budget cap of 2,544 MtCO2e
• on average this means emissions as measured by the net carbon account were 47% lower than base year emissions over the third carbon budget period. By the end of the period in 2022, UK net greenhouse gas emissions were 50% lower than base year emissions
