Details

National statistics on time intervals for criminal proceedings in magistrates鈥� courts.

The quarterly release presents results from a one-week survey of criminal cases completed in magistrates鈥� courts in England and Wales. It is released by the Ministry of Justice and produced in accordance with arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

The publication contains estimates of the average time between key milestone dates in a case, broken down by case type and criminal justice area. It is a key source of data on timeliness in the criminal justice system.

The bulletin is produced and handled by the ministry鈥檚 analytical professionals and production staff. Pre-release access of up to 24 hours is granted to the following persons:

Ministry of Justice: Secretary of State, Permanent Secretary, Under Secretary of State, the relevant special advisers and press officers.

Her Majesty鈥檚 Courts Service: Head of Court Business Division, Head of Court Improvement Team and the relevant press officer.
