Foreign Secretary William Hague has today welcomed the appointment of the UN Human Rights Council Commission to investigate human rights violations in Libya.

In response to the Arab League resolution calling for a no fly zone over Libya, a spokesperson for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said:
The UN Human Rights Council had a debate today on the follow-up to the Special Session on Libya on 25 February.
Foreign Secretary William Hague updated Parliament on the response to the situation in Libya following the G8 Foreign Ministers meeting in Paris.
Permanent Under Secretary Simon Fraser reiterated that the UK and many others in the international community believe Qadhafi must relinquish power immediately.
"We have been clear that the world would not accept Qadhafi’s brutality against his own people."
