Charges

Application fees for new operational or conditional licences or area variations to existing operational or conditional licences (excluding Forest of Dean licences):

  • £575 per hectare
  • Minimum £575
  • Maximum £13,800 (maximum area of 10,000 hectares)

Application fee for Forest of Dean licences (in a freeminer’s gale in the Hundred of St Briavels):

  • £50

Application fee for other types of variations to existing operational or conditional licences (excluding Forest of Dean licences):

  • £575

Application fee for variations to existing Forest of Dean licences (in a freeminer’s gale in the Hundred of St Briavels):

  • £50

Grant fees for new operational or conditional licences (excluding Forest of Dean licences):

  • £1,150

Grant fee for area variations to existing operational or conditional licences (excluding Forest of Dean licences)

  • £575

Grant fee for new Forest of Dean licences or variations to existing Forest of Dean licences (in a freeminer’s gale in the Hundred of St Briavels):

  • £50

Grant fee for extensions of term to existing operational licences (excluding Forest of Dean licences):

  • Equivalent to annual fee

Grant fee for other types of variations to existing operational or conditional licences (excluding Forest of Dean licences):

  • £575

Annual fee for operational licences (excluding Forest of Dean licences), based on an estimate of tonnage to be produced in the following 12 months:

  • £575 for annual production up to 5,000 tonnes
  • £1,150 for annual production from 5,001 to 250,000 tonnes
  • £5,750 for annual production more than than 250,000 tonnes

Annual fee for conditional licences (If an exploration licence has been granted with a conditional licence only one annual fee is payable):

  • £575

Annual fee for Forest of Dean licences (in a freeminer’s gale in the Hundred of St Briavels)

  • £50

Payments for coal or rights in relation to coal for operational licences (excluding Forest of Dean licences where the Mining Remediation Authority is not the galee, for which there is no charge):

  • £0.17 per tonne production-related rent

Payments for coal or rights in relation to coal associated with conditional licences:

  • £0.30 per hectare paid on grant of option for lease
  • £0.35 per hectare paid at the end of year 1 of option for lease
  • £0.40 per hectare paid at the end of year 2 of option for lease
  • £0.45 per hectare paid at the end of year 3 of option for lease
  • £0.50 per hectare paid at the end of year 4 of option for lease
  • £0.60 per hectare paid at the end of year 5 of option for lease
  • £1.15 per hectare paid at the end of year 6 of option for lease
  • £1.75 per hectare paid at the end of year 7 of option for lease
