Repay and manage benefit money you owe

You can use this service to:

  • check how much you owe
  • find out why you need to repay money
  • view your payment history
  • pay back what you owe in full or make a one-off payment
  • get help and support about the money you owe

This service is also available in Welsh (Cymraeg).

If you’re getting Universal Credit

Your benefit payments will be reduced until you’ve paid back the money.

You can use this service to check when you will have repaid the money.

You cannot use this service to manage money you owe from an advance you got on your current Universal Credit claim. Contact Universal Credit instead

If you’ve stopped getting benefits

You’ll get a letter from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) telling you that you can use this service. If you live in Northern Ireland, the letter will come from the Department for Communities (DfC).

After you get the letter, you can use the service to set up or manage a Direct Debit or flexible payment plan.

Sign in to the service

You can sign in with the security code in your letter from DWP or DfC. You can also sign in with 51²è¹Ý One Login. You’ll be able to create a 51²è¹Ý One Login if you do not already have one.

If you’re paying from a UK bank account, use the following details:

  • account name - DWP Debt Management

If you’re paying from an overseas account, use the following details:

  • account name - DWP Debt Management

  • payment reference - the reference number on your letter from DWP or your National Insurance number

Pay using Direct Debit, debit card, cheques or cash

Contact DWP Debt Management to:

  • set up monthly repayments by Direct Debit
  • make a payment using a debit card
  • request a paying-in slip for cheque or cash payments
